My NKJV Bible explains that covet means " . . uncontrolled, inordinate, selfish desire . . occurred in the mind . . ." And we should "turn away from evil thoughts that lead to" following through on "those actions."
Letting our minds wander away from our spouse to the spouse of another is sin.
