Dutch Farms Eggs vs Farm Fresh Eggs

Well, good morning to you! Isn't today such a blessed day?
Come on in and sit down at the kitchen table! Would you like a veggie omelet?
Check out the eggs I'm using. The egg on the left is from my hens~ farm fresh! The egg on the right I purchased at the store. It was produced by Dutch Farms Eggs with an expiration date on the carton of February 3, 2012.
Which egg would you rather eat?

Poll Results for 'Posting Income and What I Spend '...

I took an impromptu poll of whether or not I should post on my blog what money comes in and out of my household and how it is spent.
These are the results:

1) "Someone will see it on your blog and 'roll you'!"

2) "No thoughts."

3) "No way! That's sort of personal, don't you think?! You might as well put your sex life on there!!!"

4) "No, because you wouldn't want the people who follow you to know how much money you put in savings. I see people's prepping blogs where they show everything they have stockpiled. That's just not good."

5) "Cuz then people's gonna know more of your business and tell ya you don't need a job. People will be wanting to borrow money and so forth."

Interesting thoughts!
What are yours?

Mothering Matthew

Hello there! Welcome back! Pull up a chair and let's have a cup of coffee.
Pardon the mess. I've been busy being Matthew's Mom. To me, being a Mom is one of my most important jobs right now.
This job is not just laundry, dishes, cooking and chauffeuring. No! It's snuggling, counseling, encouraging and disciplining.

Do You Have Seeds?

As I look at my seed bin, I wonder if I am truly prepared? Do I really have all the seeds I need? Enough sprout able varieties to keep us in produce all summer? All year? To can and dehydrate a two year supply? To completely feed us without using the grocery store?
My bin looks full, but it is an artificial sense of security. As I recall from last growing season, many of these seeds are not viable/ not sprout able.
What this means is that I am going to have to test seeds from every seed packet I have. I absolutely must know which ones will sprout/ which ones I can count on for our future. Then I must inventory the seeds that sprout so that I can make sure I have as broad a variety of seeds as possible.
There are, however, some crops I won't be attempting to grow, like wheat and rice, as I live on 130 x 50 ft and would need many acres to grow enough to make it worthwhile. For those crops I am thinking of foraging and substitution.
Plan ahead to eat well!
