Practical Living Skills

Who says a twelve (12) year old boy can't/ shouldn't do his own laundry?
Why would any mother in her right mind deprive her son of the right to learn to be self-sufficient? It's so important for a developing young man to feel empowered to become capable of living independently. Laundry is just one small simple way to do that.
It is, however, a process and Matt goes through phases of doing it well and hiding laundry he doesn't want to hang out. He actually hid one load in the compost pile! Was he ever amazed when I made him rewash it and hang it out!!
At five (5) years old Matt started washing his own laundry, including adjusting washer settings and measuring out detergent. When he goes off to college he will be capable of caring for himself. What could be better?!?!
Isn't this our job as parents? To raise responsible self-sufficient adults we're proud to be affiliated with?!?!?!
