31 Day Organizing Challenge~ Day 1

Hi! Don't panic at the mess! I stuffed a lot into this room when we emptied the attic and pantry, then never got it all sorted. So here I sit with an overwhelming mess in what was intended to be part office and part good living room.

I took these pictures with the intention of changing/ organizing this space then posting about it. Life kept getting busy/ crazy and I never got to it.
So?
Well, I happened upon (why do I not follow more closely?) a challenge at www.orgjunkie.com and am going to do her 31 day challenge~ hopefully successfully within ten (10) days!
The first step is to empty the room~ um, where am I going to put all this stuff?
I'll post pictures as I go, so stay tuned!

  1. No worries. Nothing can really get clean unless it gets dirtier first.

    1. Other than a few rambunctious cob webs, it's just really, really cluttered! I have boxes of filing to organize, fishing gear, tools, stacks of extra blankets... etc.
I am So looking forward to this process and pulling literally everything out and pulling up the carpet to see if I have pretty wood floors underneath.

    1. After I posted this I went into a small panic attack of sorts wondering where, in my tiny house, I was going to put all this stuff in order to move it out of the livingroom! But I have decided to put the shelves in the hallway, the camping supplies by the back door (almost time to put the tent back up for the summer!!!), and stack the rest in the family room (which we aren't currently using anyways).
I think the trick is to remember that it waill only be this way for a very short time.

    1. Thank you, April! My intention is to empty the room and pull the carpet first thing. Then I'll know if I'm refinishing the floor or laying a new 'wood' floor.
This room will undoubtedly take mor time than until Easter Sunday, but I want o see how much I can get done by then~ and within 31 total days!

  4. Don't panic. Do a little at a time, bit by bit, and it will get done.

Set a timer. When the timer goes off, STOP, and do something nice for yourself, before you go back to it.

    1. I actually have not officially started this challenge, eben though the clock is ticking! I had to finish and file my taxes first~ which showed all to clearly the truth that I Need to get Way More Organized! In finishing mytaxes, and digging for papers I needed, the room has been filled more and turned upside down a bit too... tonight, after a Boy Scout meeting (elsewhere) I can finally begin to empty my poor abandoned livingroom! My gut feeling is that I will be throwing away/ giving away a lot! (Like the box of VHS tapes I dumped in the 'free pile' at work this morning!!! :)

  5. We have a small house too and there was no way I could move everything out of our office. So I just kept moving it around and around. Not the most effective and I never got the completely cleared out room high but I had to make it work to maintain sanity in the rest of the house. Good luck this week. Can't wait to see the reveal!

    1. Beth, I usually end up cleaning by shuffling/ rotating items, but absolutely have to pull the nasty carpet that came with the house. It was stained when we bought it and has only gotten worse with kids, dogs, mud and generally glleeful abandon of any consideration for the condition of it!
Tonight I will begin reading the Day #1 list making instructions, then begin to haul everything out. I'll try to post pictures as I go...
