Fresh Eggs!

Fresh eggs are the final step in our cycle.
1) The chickens eat the weeds.
2) The chicken run and coop are cleaned out to provide compost to plant our gardens.
3) The chickens lay yummy eggs.
Then it starts all over again!!!

  1. Do chickens lay eggs all year, or do they stop in the winter?

  2. My chickens pretty much lay all year. I do have a reptile heat lamp hanging in their coop for winter heat and light. this is so the temperature out there doesn't get below 35*F, I can see when I check on them in the evenings and so they lay some eggs all winter. I'm afraid my particular breeds wouldn't lay much, if at all, during the winter without the light. There are some breeds that are prolific layers year round. I'd love to switch to those breeds!
