Joliet Police Helping Injured Dog on Rt 6

On October 4, 2014, as Matt and I were driving home, we came upon this scene. There was a large dog wandering in the westbound lane of Rt 6!
It was nice to see Joliet Police Officers take the time to stop all traffic from both directions in order to rescue the poor dog. The officers were patient and kind. . .
Very well done!!!

Romans 8 ~ Day 3

Wow! Reading from The Companion Bible. . . .
"The law of the "spirit" (or new nature) sets us free from the claims of the law."
So good to read here as I have heard pastors say we are obligated obey Old Testament Law.
The Holy Spirit
does so much!!!

Prepping with Injuries?

Have you considered the possibility of serious injuries needing surgery during a SHTF scenario?
As I await a doctor appointment to deal with a bruised ankle due to a screw installed due to a previous (1977) injury, it occurs to me that Matt and I have no real medical training. And I can almost guarantee there are no doctors living in my neighborhood so there would be no one but ourselves to turn to in a true emergency.
We do have a pretty extensive EMT first aid book but have not done more than shelve it for future use. As I sit here in pain and know I probably need surgery, I am realizing we need to read through that book and assemble more supplies. Might also be a good idea to practice some techniques so we're comfortable.
Hmmmmm. . . . .

Knitting, Knitting, Knitting. .

Hi there! Welcome back. How are you?
I wanted to show you the hats I was knitting Sunday. I actually finished both of these and have moved on to a new one.
For right now my plan is to knit and sew enough to successfully do a craft show next year. And, of course, I will enter my best items at the Will County Fair.
Knitting is relaxing and a fun creative outlet for me. I get to reduce stress while having fun playing with stitch and color combinations!
What are you knitting?

Romans 8~ Day 1

As I sit in my car for lunch munching granola, dried cranberries and raisins I've decided to do a Bible reading challenge again. In looking for a beginning point I opened a recent email from Transformation Garden and was led to Romans 8:31. Of course my challenge is always an entire chapter so Romans 8 it is!!!
To me, where I stand right now in my life, this is a reminder to stay on track. Do not settle for less than that which will fulfill His calling on my humble life. I must stay on track.
It is imperative that I follow His lead. .. regardless.

Watching Storms Roll In and Out

Sometimes my work station is such that I am blessed with a great view of so many things. On this particular day it was storm clouds and reminded me of life a bit.
As we go through life there are many storms for us to weather. This simply can't be avoided no matter how hard we work . even when we feel we're giving 100% to something important to us. The storms are just opportunities to grow. At the moment I feel myself in the middle if a huge very odd storm. And there seriously seems to be no easy way out. I simply have to ride it out and see where it goes.
Now, mind you, I feel overly and abundantly blessed right now despite this odd storm. Matt and I have a humble yet comfy home and we have just enough income to satisfy our needs plus a few small extravagances.
I think the key to riding out storms is trusting in God and remembering how many other truly odd storms He's helped us through in the past. I know Matt and I will be just fine. We have both survived plenty of these storms and will land on our feet.
You can do the same!
God lives you and will be there for you.
Ride out the storm with a smile . . .
And enjoy the new adventure awaiting when the sun comes back out!!!!!

Me *.* Day 362

Good morning! Hope you are blessed today!!
This is me from yesterday. it was a peaceful morning of catching up a bit on bookwork. :)
And, as I worked, my mind was on a chat with a sweet tenant the day before. We stopped to chat as I loaded all Matt's aluminum cans for his recycling business into my car. It's nice to stop and hear different people's perspectives and plans. We chatted about jobs we've had and our plans for the future.
Ad she readies for her move to LA, California and I for a move further out of town, we both face new adventures and unknown obstacles.
And we're both excited for what our futures hold!!

Psalm 139

As I sat tonight going through old notes from church services I noticed Psalm 139 on my notes from August 17, 2014. The sermon was about saying we want to serve God, but then not wanting to follow through.
I am on a renewed mission of sorts. I absolutely must obey Him. There are things God has called me to and, rather than be an over busy Martha doing everything but obey, I am learning to be a peaceful Mary, obediently listening to Him and obeying.
He sees and hears everything.
I need to obey accordingly.

Reading Jonah. .

Hello there. .
Today, on my lunch break, I picked up my Bible and it opened to the book of Jonah. .
Little did I realize as I began to quietly read, Jonah's story is not dissimilar from mine.
A few years back (yes that long ago) I asked the Lord what I needed to do to move closer to my calling.
The answer I received was simple yet specific. .
And yet, I've pretty much flat out refused to do it completely.
Oh, yeah, I'll start it and almost complete it. . I've done that over and over sporadically. .
But, most of the time I just make lame excuses. . . And wonder why God hasn't fulfilled His par.. .
So now?
Well, my friend, it's time for me to obey.

Lunch at El Camino in Toledo, Ohio

As I sit munching granola bars and dried cranberries for lunch at work I remember the delicious lunch my Mom took us for last Sunday. Yummy!
We all stopped at El Camino Restaurant for lunch. My menu choice was lunch special #1, which was a stuffed pepper, refried beans, a taco and guacamole salad!!! I seriously had no idea it was going to be this much food and was I stuffed when I was finished!!! Suffice it to say, I was not able to eat all of it, but gave it my best shot.
Next time you're in Toledo, you absolutely must give this fabulous restaurant a try!!!

Day 258/365

A day of paid workout and still a bit feverish with the perpetual cough and trouble breathing. . Some Alka Seltzer Plus seems to be helping a lot. . Although I'm still having so much trouble breathing that Matt won't allow me to prep Avon brochures, I do feel like I'm getting better. . .

Joy Dare:
15th~ 3 gifts paired~~
Alka Seltzer and sinus infection/chest congestion
Matt and I hanging out
Bed and super soft bedding

I am so deeply grateful for the friends I'm close to and those I'm getting to know. . And for a son who watches and listens carefully and is able to differentiate right from wrong. . And so grateful Matt has listened at church and realizes when he's being led down the wrong path. . God blesses a boy whose heart is for Him!!!

Waste in a World of Serious Need

I stopped at the Speedway on Jefferson St in Joliet for a 44oz Coke and couldn't believe what I saw! It amazed me to see an employee take sandwiches from the display and throw these in the trash!!
How sad is it to waste food this way when MorningStar Mission is trying to feed so many homeless and low income families every day!!!
Please, can someone out there explain to me how a corporation as big as Speedway does not have, and enforce, a policy to donate to shelters?!?!?!

Day 247/365

Waking to a stormy day with both Matt and I feeling flu-ish, I keep Matt home from school to rest while I head off to the trenches. . It was a long day and, although I did a thorough job, I was really dragging and felt it as I looked around at my progress. . Honestly, the only reason I went to work was because I knew my boss was coning in to pick up deposit records. . Otherwise? I would have stayed home to sip tea and rest. . . But responsibility called and keeping a job is critical in a world where we're all easily expendable. . . .
