Incubator Test Run

Good Morning and welcome back! Come on into the kitchen and see what I'm up to (latest mischief).
I am doing a bit of a test-run with an egg incubator a friend gave me. The nice people at 'Big R' in Morris, IL said this is the model the school teachers use in their classrooms, so it must work reasonably well, right? I am hoping as my friend had no success with it.
The instructions said to keep it in a room with an average temperature of 65-70F~ my thermostat is set at 55F. It also said to place a pan of water under it~ I set the whole house humidifier next to it. Improvising seems to be the mainstay of our household these days. That and re purposing!
So...
Now to wait and see how many eggs will hatch and what our chicks will look like.
I feel like an expectant mama!

"Project 365" (366 for 2012)

Hi!
Welcome back!
Glad you came by...
I've plopped down on my bed to watch a movie (yes, "Jerry Maguire" again) while running back and forth to the laundry and wood stove, doing Bible study, etc...
I've decided to take another shot at "Project 365"...
yes, I do realize I'm starting late again...
and that that was part of my downfall last year...
but, I think I'm more in a position to complete it this year...
I'm more organized...
and have a very different perspective...
I will post every day...
at least one photo a day...
initially I will offer no explanation of my photos...
if asked, I will explain some, depending on content...
please, always feel free to ask questions!
so...
stay tuned for photos!

Johnny Cake Surprise!

Hello! Welcome back!
In my quest to cut expenses/ shopping trips and practice using what we already have in our pantry, I did a little experiment with the
Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix.
For the first batch, I mixed the box of corn muffin mix with one fresh egg, 1/2 can (1 cup) applesause, a handful of raisins and a good sprinkling of both cinnamon and nutmeg. Yes, I know this sounds interesting/ outrageous, yet it was absolutely delicious! Matt ate all the johnny cakes made from this batch!!!
For the second batch, I mixed in the egg, applesauce, raisins, nutmeg and cinnamon. Then I added a handful of coconut! I like coconut, but wasn't sure Matt would eat it. It was so yummy!
This is definitely a recipe I will be repeating and varying.
Maybe diced apples...? Blueberry pie filling instead of applesauce...?
The possibilities are endless!
Happy Munching!

Front Porch in Winter

Good evening, my friend! Glad you stopped by!!
What do you think? Is my entrance at all hospitable?
I cleaned and straightened a bit, and it looks 100% better, but I am longing for summer and to put my wicker table and lawn chairs back out.
Yes, I know it's January 1st, but I am feeling a deep need to sit out there with a cup of coffee and do my Bible study.
So, I am wishing to make my front porch warmer and more welcoming until spring comes back. Any ideas?
